Summer Kitchens
A bakeoven is attached to the rear of the summer kitchen. This 7 by 6 foot structure sits atop a dolomite foundation and houses an oval shaped baking chamber. Baking was very important to Walloon-Belgians and usually took place on Saturday to prepare for the upcoming week. According to Laatsch, 18 bakeovens still exist in the peninsula. |
